Hyde Park Corner
These much restored 16th century cottages standing beside the village green below St. Mary's Church apparently became known as 'Hyde Park Corner' because of the practice of visitors to the rectory engaging in outdoor preaching in this area of the village green. The group was saved from demolition and restored in the 1950s to serve as 'almshouses' supported by the George Savage Trust. However, they suffered a disastrous fire in 1966, but were again rebuilt.
